2012 Kentucky Derby Tickets Heating Up March 28th, 2012 | Kentucky Derby Tickets | No Comments »

As spring weather begins to spread and the clocks have moved forward, only one thing is on the mind of horse racing fans across the country — the wait until the Kentucky Derby and the Triple Crown races.

Scheduled for May 5, 2012 the Kentucky Derby is probably the biggest event in the horse racing industry. Attending the Kentucky Derby has become somewhat of a status symbol among celebrities as much as it is about enjoying the horse racing.

As a result, fans of the Kentucky Derby and horse racing in general are encouraged to secure their 2012 Kentucky Derby tickets well in advance of May 5. The reasoning is there’s a limited number of tickets available for the event and they are not easily attained. As the race draws closer and supply of the tickets dwindles, the demand increases. The event attracts a lot of “fair weather fans” so to speak, people who normally would not attend a horse race but want to go just because it is the thing to do. As a result, last minute ticket prices generally soar higher and higher. Simple economics of supply and demand.

Avoid all of that risk and secure your Kentucky Derby tickets today.

Find Kentucky Derby Tickets Without Fee September 9th, 2011 | Kentucky Derby Tickets | No Comments »

Churchill Downs has announced that the raffle for Kentucky Derby ticket purchase options now has a $50 fee associated with it. So, you have to pay $50 to have a chance to ‘win’ and what you win is the opportunity to buy one of the 20,000 tickets made available to the public.

We understand Churchill Downs wanting to make as much money as they can, any business does but do they really need to charge this much in fees? What a high price to pay. Of course if you don’t get selected you get your money back but I’m sure they are making money on the ‘float’.

NOTE – these dates are purely hypothetical and just for an example.

Here’s how a float works, you pay your $50 fee to them say on September 9, they deposit that in their interest earning account. On December 15, they have the drawing, you’re not chosen and you get a refund of your $50 in February.

So from September – February, they earn interest on YOUR $50. Which granted is not a lot, but do you have any idea how many hundreds of thousands of people enter the raffle? Multiply that $50 by 300,000 and then by 6 months and they’re getting money for nothing.

Now I must stress that this is all purely conjecture on my part, but I just need to know when is enough enough for these multi-million dollar enterprises?

Personally, I would rather take that money and put it towards the tickets themselves and get myself better seats.

On the secondary market you can already purchase Kentucky Derby tickets. AND there are brokers who do not charge additional fees, the price you see is the price you pay at SelectATicket.com, for example. Sure the price for tickets may be high compared to the printed face value but these businesses exist for people who are willing to pay for better seats when demand is high and tickets are difficult to come by. If you are not a big spender, you can still get cheaper seats but if you want the best seats at the best prices, all your money goes to the ticket and gets you more bang for your buck then a broker is the way to go for Kentucky Derby tickets.
